What’s Inside Flimty? Every Ingredient Explained

Every Flimty sachet is built on one main ingredient: psyllium husk. Around it sit fruit and vegetable extracts, a sweetener, and a small number of technical ingredients. One 15 g sachet gives you 4.5 to 5 grams of dietary fibre, depending on which flavour you drink.

This article lists exactly what is in each of the three flavours sold in the UAE, and explains what each group of ingredients is doing there.

Fibre per sachet is not the same in every flavour

This is the number most people want first, and it genuinely differs:

  • Raspberry — 5 g of dietary fibre per sachet
  • Mango — 5 g of dietary fibre per sachet
  • Blackcurrant — 4.5 g of dietary fibre per sachet

Adults generally need somewhere around 25 to 30 grams of fibre a day. One sachet covers roughly a fifth of that, which is why Flimty is best understood as a way to top up the fibre you already get from food, not as a replacement for vegetables, fruit, or whole grains.

Psyllium husk: the main ingredient

Psyllium husk is the outer layer of the seed of Plantago ovata. It is a soluble fibre, which means it absorbs water and forms a gel. That is why a Flimty drink thickens within a minute or two of mixing, and why the packaging tells you to drink it straight away rather than letting it sit.

It is the first ingredient listed on all three flavours, which means it is the largest single component by weight.

Fruit and vegetable extracts

Each flavour carries a different blend. These are what give the drink its colour and much of its taste.

Blackcurrant

Psyllium husk, red beetroot extract, fruit and vegetable extract (green apple, orange, carrot, spinach), blackcurrant extract, pomegranate extract, goji berry extract, mango extract, grape extract, kiwi extract, synthetic blackcurrant flavour, vitamin C, silicon dioxide (anti-caking agent), sucralose (artificial sweetener), fructose.

Raspberry

Psyllium husk, raspberry powder, strawberry powder, red beetroot powder, spinach extract, mangosteen extract, grape extract, pomegranate extract, garcinia, goji berry powder, lycopene, inulin, steviol glycosides (natural sweetener), ascorbic acid (antioxidant), vitamin and mineral premix.

Mango

Psyllium husk, fruit and vegetable extract (green apple, orange, carrot, spinach), blackcurrant extract, pomegranate extract, goji berry extract, mango extract, grape extract, kiwi extract, inulin, polydextrose, garcinia, carrageenan, ascorbic acid (antioxidant), synthetic mango flavour, lemon concentrate, silicon dioxide (anti-caking agent), steviol glycosides (natural sweetener).

The sweetener is where the three flavours really differ

If you care about what sweetens your drink, this is the section to read.

  • Raspberry and Mango are sweetened with steviol glycosides, a sweetener derived from the stevia plant. Both contain 0 g of sugar per sachet.
  • Blackcurrant is sweetened with sucralose, an artificial sweetener, and contains 2 g of sugar per sachet.

There is a second difference worth knowing. Blackcurrant and Mango both use a synthetic flavouring. Raspberry does not. Its taste comes from raspberry powder and strawberry powder, which together make up a substantial share of the sachet.

That makes Raspberry the simplest formulation of the three: natural sweetener, no synthetic flavouring, and real fruit powder rather than extract alone.

Blackcurrant is the only flavour that carries a vitamin C value on its nutrition panel. Raspberry and Mango do not declare vitamin or mineral values, so we do not make any vitamin claims for them.

Which flavour suits you

Fibre content is close enough across the range that taste is a reasonable way to choose. Beyond taste:

  • Prefer a natural sweetener and no synthetic flavouring — choose Raspberry.
  • Prefer a natural sweetener with a lighter, fruitier taste — choose Mango.
  • Want the flavour with a declared vitamin C value — that is Blackcurrant, but note it contains sucralose and 2 g of sugar.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are buying for a young child, Blackcurrant is not the one to pick because of the artificial sweetener. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before adding any fibre supplement to your routine, particularly if you take regular medication or have a digestive condition.

What is in the box

Every box contains 16 sachets of 15 g, which comes to 240 g in total. At one sachet a day, a box lasts just over two weeks.

How to prepare it

Pour one sachet into a shaker or glass, add 150 to 250 ml of water, and stir or shake until it is evenly mixed. Drink it straight away. It tastes better with cold water.

Because psyllium husk absorbs water, drink enough fluid through the day alongside it. For a fuller walkthrough, see our guide on how to drink Flimty.

Manufacturing and certification
